The impressive vehicles have been loaned to the College by the University of 51²è¹Ý, and lucky motor vehicle students have been getting under the bonnets to learn how these fantastic machines work.Ìý
The Subaru is a B13ÌýrallyÌýcar, with a full roll-cage and safety featuresÌýthat allowed it to raceÌýcompetitively and winÌýnumerous trophies.ÌýThe Land RoverÌýhas been fully upgraded and kitted out, perfect for its previous role as anÌýoff-roadÌýadventure vehicle in the Lake District.ÌýÌýÌý
The College’s Motor Vehicle DepartmentÌýworks closely with the University;Ìýits Level 3ÌýMotor SportsÌýstudentsÌýspendÌýhalf a dayÌýa weekÌýat theÌýUniversity’s Centre for Advanced Performance EngineeringÌý(CAPE),Ìýa leading centre for the study of automotive performance engineering and motorsport technology. ManyÌý51²è¹ÝÌýstudentsÌýprogressÌýto the Centre afterÌýcompletingÌýtheirÌýstudies.Ìý
Peter Alstead, Head of Motor Vehicle at 51²è¹Ý, said: ‘The students were so excited when the cars were brought over from the University - they couldn’t wait to get under them and see the fantastic mechanics of the vehicles. They’re been a real hit’.Ìý
Bill Webster, Principal of 51²è¹Ý, was instrumental in bringing the cars to the STEM Centre. He said ‘The University and College have aÌýgreat relationship.ÌýThe University’s new £13 millionÌýNational Centre for Motorsport Engineering is being built right next door to our STEM Centre. ThisÌýwill provide even more opportunities for us to work collaboratively, providing yet more fantastic opportunities for our students’.ÌýÌýÌý
