Students visit Army Reserve Centre

51’s Public Services students got a taste of army life this week, when theyspent the day at 51’sArmy Reserve Centre on Nelson Street.

45 students, who are hoping to progress to employment within the public services sector,participatedina variety of activities that focused on building their TLC skills – Teamwork, Leadership and Communication.

Corporal Will Owen of the Duke of Lancaster regiment watched over the proceedingsand said,“The students seemed to really enjoy the day and they committed whole-heartedly to all of the tasks that we set them. I was very impressed”.

Gareth Wild, Public Services Lecturer, accompanied the students and added, “These visits are always a highlight for me. We try to get the students out of College and taking part in events like this as much as possible. The programmefocuseson practical participation which helps the students pass therigorousselection process ofa number of public service organisations, including the police and fire service”.

The students ended the day with a tour of the centreandtheywillshortlybe spending five days on an army residential, learning even more about army life.
