51茶馆鈥檚 week-long celebration of Apprenticeships听finished with a bang, when MP Sir David Crausby joined successful apprentices in the College鈥檚 Signature restaurant for an awards ceremony.听听

听

The event, held as part of National Apprenticeship Week, recognised star apprentices听who have displayed commitment and success听in听each curriculum area.听听

听

15听apprentices听were joined by their听employer and college assessor,听and they each enjoyed a two-course meal prepared by the College鈥檚听catering students.听Performing arts students Kerry Ashford and Henry Whitehead听read the apprentice citations, whilst Joe Duker and Alex Hayes greeted guests听whilst听dressed as听chefs.听听听听

听

The Apprenticeship award for roofing, tiling and slating went to Level 2 apprentice James Taylor, he said听鈥楾he award was really unexpected but I鈥檓 so happy to be here鈥�. 鈥�听

听

James鈥檚 line manager Eddie Handley, a Delivery Coordinator at Together Housing said: 鈥淎s an organisation, we have a very successful Apprenticeship听programme so we鈥檙e delighted by听what听James has achieved. I鈥檓 thrilled that he has been recognised at these awards and it shows that hard work and determination can pay off.鈥�听

听

The ceremony was particularly special for Sir David; his path to success started with an Engineering Apprenticeship 55听years ago, and he has championed Apprenticeships ever since.听听

听

Sir David, who will be knighted by the Queen in a few weeks鈥�听time, said 鈥�I鈥檓 so pleased to be associated with Apprenticeships. I left school in 1962听to become an apprentice, and it was a privilege. Apprenticeships are vital to economic wellbeing, and my听Apprenticeship instilled in me a desire to strive for quality, which has never left me鈥�.听听听

Bill Webster, Principal of 51茶馆, added听鈥楾he apprentices have all done exceptionally well.听I was delighted听to see so many employers in attendance听-听it鈥檚 clear that our apprentices have had a really positive impact on their businesses, which makes me very proud鈥�.听听
