The money will provide homeless, transient, vulnerable and lonely adults with hot food, clothing, and showers, as well as advice and support over the long winter months.Ìý

The funds were raised during an annual party for staff and students, and Dave Bagley, founder of Urban Outreach, visited the College’s Deane Road campus to collect the cheque in person.ÌýÌý

51²è¹Ý, which is part of the group, currently offers a variety of modern foreign language and British Sign Language courses.Ìý

Speaking a foreign language can be extremely beneficial, and the College’s students have enrolled for a variety of reasons.Ìý

Ìý

Many companies now seek candidates with foreign language skills, whilst an increasing amount of people in the UK now use sign language, so there is a growing demand for interpreters.Ìý

ÌýÌý

For personal reasons, the process of learning improves cognitive and analytical abilities, increasing brain functionality.

Ìý

Bill Webster, Principal of 51²è¹Ý, and language tutors Margarita Concannon and Joanne Kay presented the cheque.

Bill Webster said: "I am immensely proud of our language department, who continue to provide wonderful learning opportunities for people in the North West.

"The £330 will make a real difference to those in need and we are delighted that Dave Bagley was able to collect the cheque in person. Urban Outreach is a charity close to the College's heart - they do fantastic work in the town."Ìý Ìý
