The show was part of National Apprenticeship Week, which highlights the success of apprentices and the broad range of skills an Apprenticeship can develop.Ìý

Guest speaker Sue Bain, one of 51²è¹Ý’s Governors, opened the event, and passionately discussed the importance of Apprenticeships.ÌýÌý

15Ìýhairdressing and barbering apprenticesÌýworked throughout the day to createÌýsome unique and inspiring styles.ÌýModelling the stylesÌýwereÌýBeth Dove, the current MissÌý51²è¹Ý andÌýBethÌýTalbott, who isÌýMiss Crown &ÌýGloryÌýforÌýNorthÌýWestÌýEngland.Ìý

Charlene BrandonÌýis currently completingÌýa Hairdressing Level 2 ApprenticeshipÌýwith 51²è¹Ý,Ìýand working at John Lee Guy in 51²è¹Ý. Charlene,Ìýwho created a style modelled onÌýthe 1980s, said ‘I’ve loved the event, it’s been brilliant and so much fun’.Ìý

Watching the glittering catwalk show were influential industry figures, includingÌýstudio educatorÌýTanyaÌýGreenÌýfrom WellaÌýProfessionals. They were joined byÌýa number ofÌýemployers, includingÌýAshley’s Hair Lounge and Barbara Gregori Hair.ÌýParents, carers and fellow students were also in attendance, and soaked up the show with enthusiasm.ÌýÌýÌý

Katie Woods, owner and stylist at KW Hairdressing & Beauty in Heaton, said: ‘The event was fantastic, I came to support my apprentice Jenna and I was so impressed by her work. The other apprentices were amazing too, it’s great to know that we have so many up and coming stylists in 51²è¹Ý’.ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý

Sarah Bleackley,ÌýCurriculum Leader for HairdressingÌýat 51²è¹Ý, said: ‘This is the fourth year of these events, and they just keep on getting better. Employer feedback was excellent,Ìýthey were so enthusiastic about what they’d seen. Apprenticeships are so important to us at the College, and it’s lovely for the apprenticesÌýtoÌýput the looks together. They didn’t just style the hair, they used mood boards to create their look, andÌýworked on theÌýcostumes and make-up themselvesÌýtoo. It’s aÌýgreatÌýopportunityÌýto practise andÌýshow off the skills they’ve developed’.Ìý
