Intro to Healthy Spanish Cuisine

    This introductory course complements our other cooking courses, this will help develop your confidence and cooking skills within the kitchen. You will learn how to use healthy ingredients, being able to substitute ingredients and using less unhealthy options. You will develop your knife skills and safety in the kitchen when using appliances and utensils, whilst being aware of good food and personal hygiene. The course will also help you understand weights and measurements when reading and using recipes.

    Be able to create and cook a selection of traditional Spanish dishes.

    • Develop kitchen techniques such as preparation and cooking Methods.
    • Understand safety in the kitchen when using different appliances and utensils, such as knife skills and different cutting techniques.
    • Recognise healthier ingredients and the benefits they can give you, being able to substitute less healthy options.
    • Practise good food and personal hygiene and recognise the importance of practising these.
    • Demonstrate measuring skills, for weighing ingredients when using recipes.
    • Create and cook a selection of traditional Spanish dishes.
  • Entry requirements

    o join the course you MUST be 19 or over. You MUST be a beginner and you will need to be an independent learner. Your English language must be at good Entry 2 level or above. You must have basic IT skills e.g. use mouse, keyboard and navigate the web. The tutor may move you onto a more suitable course.

    • No previous experience or qualification is required, but an interest in cooking or how to improve your diet to eat healthier.
    • Have a basic knowledge regarding using knives and appliances.

    As this is a non-accredited course (not a qualification) you will work towards a college certificate of achievement by passing all your agreed learning outcomes.
  • Is there anything else I need to know?

    • A ring binder folder to keep your work organised is essential.
    • You will also need to bring a pen and a notepad to take notes.
    • A apron to protect your clothes and for hygiene
    • A tea towel and oven cloth
    • A relevant container to take your completed dish home ( tutor will advise you which container maybe suitable, sometimes need 2)
    • You can bring your own device to support learning

    You can progress on to other Cooking or Baking courses at one of our local Adult Learning Centres. We have a wide range of healthy cooking and baking course if you want to try something completely different. Your tutor will give you advice and guidance on other courses within the college and can signpost you for more advice and training.
    If you are interested in further developing skills and would look to develop your skills for employment, more advanced courses could be available.

    Assessment


    All learners will complete an individual learning plan which will be discussed with their tutor throughout the course.

    Financial


    You may not have to pay tuition fees at all, if you fall into one of the groups eligible for fee exemptions. If you feel you may be eligible or would like someone to explain course fees in more detail, pleasecontact us via our Live Chat service available on any page of our website.

    Adult Learners


    Adult learners (19+) must provide evidence of their existing qualification at enrolment. Learners may not be able to enrol if this information is not provided when requested. If you have lost any certificates please contact your school in the first instance. If they are unable to provide a copy, you can contact one of the following exam boards (your school will be able to tell you which one applies to the exams you took):
